Successful CCA Dayton 2012 Banquet
Bill Carns N7OTQ – 10 PM Central May 18, 2012
The CCA Dayton 2012 Banquet goes down in history and I understand the new website has gotten some attention and good remarks. I can’t help but show off a bit and get you an updated news bulletin. It is about an hour after the banquet has ended and here it is in print. How is that for speedy up to date news?
We are still tweaking the site, and we ask for your patience as we get it all tuned up. I wish I could have been there for the announcement. For two years we have been talking about the clothing store and the website updates. Then, when it happened, I had to miss the fun. You all enjoy your swap meet tomorrow and Sunday, and for those of you that could not make Dayton this year, we will hopefully see you next year with more surprises. Happy Collins hunting!
CCA Store
Bill Carns N7OTQ – May 14, 2012
I am excited to announce that the CCA has partnered with David Birdsley, KF8WS, owner of HamThreads, to market a line of quality CCA clothing with Collins authentic Logo’s. We have authorized David to produce a line of quality clothing including jackets, hats and shirts with both round and winged emblems. The CCA store/HamThreads can personalize each item with your call sign – in addition to the Collins Logo. We will have items on display at the Dayton Collins booth # 487 or see David at his booth # 303-304. Be sure to give him your CCA Member number for a substantial discount! Soon you will be able to access this store through our new website.

DAYTON 2011
Bill Carns N7OTQ 2-22-2011
May 20th and the Dayton Hamvention will be here before we know it. The CCA is going to have another great presence there and, of course, our annual Collins Collectors Association Banquet. This year, for our Banquet Speaker, we are honored to have Jim Macanni, W0HUP, presenting a talk on “Factory and Last Minute Updates on the KWM/HF-380.” Jim spent his career at Rockwell Collins and was the former KWM/HF 380 Customer Service Manager. He also taught HF/KWM-380 repair and wrote the last 6 SB’s for the 380 when the units were being made back at Anamosa, Iowa at the very end of Amateur Radio Production!
There will, of course be some great social and show & tell sessions. In addition the CCA will have its customary inside booth ( # 459 ) and Jim Stitzinger is bringing his Rockwell Collins AN/TSC60 (V)7 Communications Shelter with its HF-80 equipment. This shelter will hopefully be operating as a special event station under the call sign(s) W0CXX and or K0CXX. Come on in and get your name and call in the log as operator during this event.
The bulk of the CCA activities will be focused around the Friday Night Banquet, May 20th, in the same rooms as last year at the Ramada Plaza Dayton (formerly the Holiday Inn Dayton North) and then Saturday (on into Sunday) at the arena. Jim Stitzinger, the Banquet Chairman and Event Coordinator is posting all the information that you need to have here on the website, so don’t wait and miss out. Make your reservation early and come enjoy the group. See you there.
THE DAYTON HAMVENTION 2011 WILL SOON BE HERE!

Ted Craven, a Collins employee during the S-line era, will be helping us at the Collins Booth and answering your questions!

CCA BOARD ELECTION NOTICE
Bill Carns N7OTQ 10-29-2010
CCA Board Elections will be held during the balance of Q4 and the first part of Q1 2011. We will be using a CCA website centric process to save time and facilitate access to the information. The process is very straight forward.
There are two board slots up for election. They are currently held by our Treasurer, Jim Green and by Butch Schartau, who does the events coordination for special events.
Board slots have a term of two years. Please see the President’s column in this quarter’s issue of the Signal Magazine for further comments.
Nominations should be submitted to the President, Bill Carns, via email at the email address at the end of the President’s column which is wcarns@austin.rr.com. Nominations will close November 30, 2010. Please specify the slot you are nominating for.
Biographies of all candidates must be submitted to the President by December 17, 2010 and will be immediately posted to the website on a hot button in the frequently accessed links area on the right. One page WORD New Times Roman 12 font single spaced and no carriage returns except for at paragraphs
Ballots will be mailed to all members in the Q4 issue of the Signal. They will include a return envelope. Ballots must be returned by January 31, 2011.
Results will be tabulated and posted to the CCA website link “Election Results” They will also be announced in the Q1, 2011 issue of the Signal.
Please consider serving your CCA and let your desires be known so that you can be nominated.
Comments:
The Board slot currently held by Jim Green is not “pinned” to the Treasurer’s position. Jim has assured me that, at least for some period of time, he would continue to support this important function. In addition, there is a fine point in the bylaws that says that the Treasurer will be a board member and that the board can appoint new board members if necessary, so that will all work out. We have been discussing increasing the number of board members by at least one slot anyway.
There is one important caveat if you are considering running. This is not an “honorary” position. There is work to do. We would like to see board members get to Dayton periodically and also support the nets by checking in and keeping the folks updated.

We are sorry if you do not like to do these kinds of things on line, but this had to happen at some point. The size of the Signal is such now that inserts often push us over the postage weight limit and that, now, gets expensive with postage rates going up and up.
